Frequently Asked Questions  


I am worried about sending my family's old films through the mail. They are very important to us and having them damaged or lost would be a nightmare for us and would devastate my Mom.  We can't watch them now but...  is it worth the risk?

This is a hard question to answer. I can't say there is no risk.  But, here is my take on it - The risk of a package being lost by USPS, UPS, et al and never found is very, very small. The risk of damage to something non-mechanical (your films, videos, DVDs, etc.) is even smaller. I will call or email you when I receive your order.  When I return your items, I can ship them separately from the DVDs /CDs and can even keep copies here until you have received everything successfully.  I realize and appreciate the irreplaceable value of your films, tapes, photos and slides and I will do everything possible to ensure their safety.

Will I get my video tapes back  after the transfer?

Yes, I will send them back to you. If you donít want them back I will hold onto them until you have successfully viewed your DVDs.

What if I want editing? I mean, I think my Dad filmed his thumb once and a while and, of course, forgot to take off the lens cap. 

If something is obscuring the image for a prolonged period of time (5 seconds or longer), I will, in all likelihood, not transfer that. But, even if I do, DVDs are much easier to watch than projected films. Skipping over something you don't like is very simple. If you hit the skip button (>>|) you will move to  the next film, or the next 5 minute marker, whichever comes first. Not to mention, you will be able to fast-forward at 8x speed.

If you still think you want some editing, it can be done and I would be happy to talk with you about it. 

How much time can fit onto a DVD?

The short answer is just over 2 hours. If you'd like the long answer, feel free to give me a call :-)

If I establish an order for my films, videos, slides or pictures will you maintain that order for the transfer?

Yes. If you know what comes first, second, etc I will be happy to transfer them accordingly. Feel free to call if you are wondering how best to mark them for me.

If I don't have enough film to fill a 2 hour DVD can I still get the films transferred to multiple DVDs? The reason I ask is that my cousins will be interested in some of the films but not others.

Yes. I will be happy to create as many master DVDs as you'd like. Simply group and order your films as you want them transferred. If you have any questions about the best way to do this -  feel free to call me.

Do I need to make a down payment and what methods of payment do you accept?

I do not require a down payment to initiate a project.

I will review your films/videos/slides shortly after I receive them.  I will then email or call you with the relevant details including the condition of what I received.  When your order is completed, I will again contact you via phone or email to tell you the final cost. I can take Visa, Master Card, Discover and American Express over the phone or, you can mail me a check and I will ship out your order after I have received it.
